After the closure of bars and clubs, it’s common for locals and visitors alike to seek out cornettari—bakeries that operate during the night—to enjoy warm, freshly made cornetti and bombe. These establishments often become bustling hubs of activity, providing a cozy atmosphere where patrons can satisfy their sweet cravings before heading home.
Dolce Maniera: A Beloved Nighttime Bakery
One of the most renowned cornettari in Rome is Dolce Maniera, formerly located on Via Barletta just below our bed and breakfast in the Prati district. Known for its wide array of pastries available at all hours, Dolce Maniera has been a favorite among Romans seeking late-night treats. In October 2024, after a period of closure, Dolce Maniera reopened its doors at a new location on Viale Giulio Cesare 114-116, just 300 meters from its original site, and from us.
This reopening was met with enthusiasm from the community, eager to once again enjoy the bakery’s offerings.
The Appeal of Bombe Calde and Cornetti
Bombe calde are soft, round doughnuts typically filled with rich pastry cream or chocolate, then dusted with sugar. Their warm, gooey centers make them an irresistible choice for a late-night snack. Cornetti, similar to French croissants but sweeter and softer, come plain or filled with various delights such as jam, cream, or Nutella. The combination of a flaky exterior and a sweet filling makes cornetti a beloved option for those seeking comfort food during the night.
