Could you go from Rome to 1,600 metres above sea level and then have lunch over the Adriatic Sea on the same day?![]()
One of the things we love most about central Italy is the incredible variety of landscapes that can be experienced in a single day.![]()
This journey started in Rome at 7:30 AM.![]()
By 9:00 AM we were already at Campo Imperatore, often called "Italy's Little Tibet", surrounded by the vast plateau of the Gran Sasso National Park and the imposing Corno Grande.![]()
From there we continued to Santo Stefano di Sessanio, one of Italy's most beautiful medieval villages, before reaching the spectacular fortress of Rocca Calascio, standing high above the surrounding mountains.![]()
A few hours later, the scenery changed completely.![]()
The mountains gave way to the Adriatic Sea and the famous Trabocchi Coast, where we enjoyed lunch on a traditional trabocco, one of the ancient wooden fishing structures that have become a symbol of this coastline.![]()
