At QuodLibet, we—Gianluca and Connie—are passionate about sharing the hidden gems of Italy. With our new section, “Italy Travel Tips from QuodLibet”, we’ll take you beyond the well-trodden paths and help you discover the heart of this incredible country, far from the crowded tourist spots.
Overtourism has become a challenge in famous cities like Rome, Venice, and Florence, but Italy offers countless lesser-known destinations that are equally breathtaking. With just a bit of local insight, it’s possible to find places rich in culture, nature, and beauty. Even in Rome, stepping away from the most popular routes can lead you to quieter, more authentic corners.
One example is the Dolomites, where majestic mountain views and peaceful alpine villages offer a striking contrast to Italy’s busier cities. You can enjoy world-class hiking in summer or skiing in winter, all while soaking in the serene atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage Site.

For those seeking the tranquility of lakeside retreats, Lake Maggiore is a perfect option. Often overshadowed by the more famous Lake Como, it offers elegant villas, lush gardens, and the stunning Borromean Islands, where you can explore aristocratic palaces and gardens far from the tourist crowds.

In Ciociaria, located in central Italy, you’ll discover a region filled with medieval towns, such as Anagni and Alatri, that are steeped in history and tradition. This area, still relatively unknown to international travelers, offers an authentic glimpse into the slow-paced life of Italy’s countryside, with its rich culinary traditions and historical landmarks.

Heading south, Calabria presents untouched beauty with its rugged coastline, crystal-clear waters, and hidden gems like the town of Tropea. This lesser-known region provides an authentic southern Italian experience, with traditional villages and some of the most pristine beaches in the country.

Even in Rome, it’s possible to escape the crowds and enjoy a more peaceful side of the city. One of our favorite places is the Gianicolo Hill. Located just above Trastevere, it offers panoramic views of the city and is the perfect spot for a relaxing afternoon, far from the hustle and bustle of the main tourist sites.

With Italy Travel Tips from QuodLibet, we aim to share our personal experiences and knowledge, offering you a more intimate and authentic perspective on traveling through Italy.
