The Sounds of Tradition: Life Near the Carabinieri Officers Training School in Rome

Staying at Quodlibet offers more than just a comfortable bed and breakfast experience in the heart of Rome. Our guests have the unique opportunity to experience the everyday life of the Carabinieri Officers Training School, located just across the street.

The Day Begins with a Trumpet Call

Each morning at 8:00 a.m. sharp, the trumpet sounds from the school, signaling the flag-raising ceremony as the Inno di Mameli, Italy’s national anthem, plays in the background. This daily ritual marks the start of the day for the cadets training to become Carabinieri officers. Guests at Quodlibet can hear this ceremony from their rooms or while enjoying breakfast on our terrace. The sound of the trumpet echoes throughout the day, marking key moments of the cadets’ routine, such as the wake-up call and the evening’s signal for lights out.

A Historical Institution in the Heart of Rome

The Carabinieri is one of Italy’s oldest and most respected law enforcement and military institutions. Established in 1814, the Carabinieri has evolved from its original role as a national gendarmerie to a force involved in a wide range of police and military functions, both in Italy and abroad.

The Viale Giulio Cesare barracks, just across from our bed and breakfast, serves as the Carabinieri Officers Training School, where future officers are trained in leadership, ethics, and discipline. It’s a place that has long been associated with the Carabinieri’s role in Italian society.

The Carabinieri National Band: A Unique Musical Tradition

In addition to its military role, the Carabinieri has a rich musical tradition. The Carabinieri National Band (Fanfara dei Carabinieri) is based at the Viale Giulio Cesare barracks and can often be heard rehearsing nearby. The band performs not only military marches but also a wide variety of music, including classical pieces, jazz, and even pop music, offering a surprising mix that echoes through the streets of Prati.

It’s not uncommon for our guests to hear the band rehearsing from Quodlibet’s terrace, adding a cultural dimension to their stay. Whether they are practicing for official ceremonies or preparing for public concerts, the music brings a unique atmosphere to the area.
